Simon Gate (1883-1945) was the glass artist who, with his grand engraved compositions, put Orrefors glassworks on the international map. Together with his fellow artist Edward Hald, he made a major breakthrough at the 1925 Paris World Exhibition, and they both contributed to Orrefors' first golden age.

Simon Gate's engraved glass is characterized by classical forms with a sculptural expression, featuring life-affirming decor often consisting of female figures, stylized plants, borders, and floral scrolls. Today, Simon Gate is a highly sought-after master among collectors worldwide, and many of his Graal chalices, engraved vases, and elegant glassware are auctioned off for high amounts. His works can also be found on public display in major museums throughout Sweden, as well as in the form of mirrors and lighting fixtures at the Stockholm Concert Hall.
