Condition: Wear from use. Glaze with cracks. Minor chip at top. One leg with crack and repair.
Thomas Hellström (1924-2006) was a Swedish ceramicist and designer associated with Nittsjö Ceramic Factory. He settled in Rättvik in 1958 and worked as a designer and technician at Nittsjö from 1958 to 2006.
Hellström studied at the Slöjdföreningen in Gothenburg, the Technical School’s Art Program in Stockholm, and the Higher School of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. His work is represented in the collections of Dalarnas Museum, Nationalmuseum, and Hallands Konstmuseum.
He designed one of Nittsjö’s most successful series, the T40 tableware collection from the 1960s, popularly nicknamed Thomas Blue. In addition to tableware, Hellström also created public art installations.
